Desire, the cause of misery and suffering

The Buddha said "all life is suffering", now what is the true source of mans suffering?
I will tell you its DESIRE the I want, I need, I want more than him/her, I must have at all costs, me me, me, You get the picture, now humans have a fundamental desire, or craving that is part of our psyche. We all want to be happy don't we? Of course we do, we desire it. Our desires drive us; it's like the desire to live, to survive, to be rich, to have more, to be strong etc. Happiness has many connotations what makes one person happy may make another sad.

Now what is the thing that brings most unhappiness? FEAR! What is fear? It's been described very aptly as False Evidence Appearing Real, because mans greatest fear is fear of the unknown in Life. We are afraid of uncertainties, afraid of death, of having no money, of illness, of no friends, no job etc. All uncertainties that create a fear of the unknown.

Now think how you would be if you had total certainty about any given situation. It would be great wouldn't it to go into each day with such total inner harmony and conviction and KNOW that nothing really mattered.

What's that? What do I mean nothing really matters? It matters to me I here you say. Well what I mean is in the scheme of creation and our sense of reality formed from our five sense beings and ego centred self, nothing matters except one truth, and that one truth is God. And what is God? LOVE, unconditional love, nothing else matters, but unconditional love.

The problem is we live in a dream and a prison of our own making, and the problem with dreams is if they are real enough we believe them. The majority of humanity chooses a religious/spiritual path that does not emphasize self knowledge and freedom. Most people go down a path that demands blind faith that substitutes questioning or inner knowing with a dogmatic belief system.

These "belief" systems suppress our inner spirits with false promises of everlasting bliss or damnation depending on how we behave, in short they are a system of social and spiritual control designed to keep the majority of mankind in blissful ignorance as to his place in the universe and his true capabilities as a human being.

How many wars have been fought in the name of God and how many more innocent lives will be slaughtered in this endless tirade of "justice" in some god's eyes? We remain in a state of ignorance and blindness because we rely on intellectual information force fed to us from the day we are born to the day we die. Every part of our "Beliefs" are indoctrinated through religion, sociology, the media etc. Belief implies uncertainty it is when we KNOW that our eyes will open and we will wake up to the TRUTH and see the carnage and lies around us that have keep us in our mental emotional prison.

There is one thing that you can be certain of in life, and that it you will one day die. The whole of physical creation is a sea of impermanence, nothing, absolutely nothing lasts forever. One day even the sun will burn out. Everything that has life goes through a process of being planted like a seed, you nurture it and it slowly sprouts and grows, then as the seasons go by it eventually withers and dies. Look at nature, I don't mean just look out of the window I mean really look, look with your mind and your heart for the hidden force behind it. Witness nature and you witness a miracle, feel the miracle and you will Know God.

The truth is we are living in a false reality; a reality that acts as a prison to us bound by religious dogmas and institutions and social thinking whose job it is to keep us imprisoned and retain the status quo. We are asked to have faith, to believe. Real faith exists only as long as it seeks knowledge and ultimate truth, blind faith requires acceptance of an external authority that demands obedience.

Can you honestly believe anything you read in the papers or see on TV? Of course not we live in a web of lies based upon control and materialism, the I haves with the I have nots. People starve to death on the streets because they cannot even afford to eat yet at the other extreme we will spend billions of pounds on weapons to kill people in the name of peace. It makes you sick doesn't it? But blindly like sheep to the slaughter we believe what we are told and go along merrily with our lives.
Remember the story of the emperors new clothes?, the people were so brainwashed with their own vanities and sense of pride and ego that it took a small boy to actually have the courage and say what he saw, the emperor didn't have any clothes!.

Its time my friends to wake up and smell the coffee and take responsibility for who we are and the world we live in before we destroy it and ourselves completely.
We are selfish, ego centred beings who only want more and more, we spend our lives driven by our desires and we become slaves to our prisons, self created by our emotions and our ego sense of self and what people think of us.

We are brainwashed with daily helpings of trivia and celebrity on TV and the papers, made to believe that we should be thinner, richer, and happier. Does this really matter? Do we really need to know what A did with B last night, is it that important to our lives that we have to know what brand of clothes or make of watch or car a certain celebrity is wearing or driving?.
NO NO NO!

Get real, for mercy's sake get a life. What we should be worrying about is the state this world is now in, its time to take action before it's too late. What is REALY important are the homeless, the starving, the underprivileged, the uneducated, the ill, the sick, the persecuted, these PEOPLE MATTER, they are part of you and me; they are our spiritual brothers and sisters no matter what their colour, race or religion.

How many times have you walked down a street and crossed the road because a drunk was lying in your path or a beggar was asking for money.
How much do you really need that new car? Or that watch? Or piece of expensive jewellery, or designer clothes. If you don't have it you won't be ill will you? You won't die? No of course not. But the next time you DESIRE think of that drunk or that homeless person or that starving child and KNOW that their lives DO DEPEND on it. If they don't eat they die, period. If they don't die of starvation eventually they become ill and die of exposure or disease.

There that makes you feel better doesn't it; I hope you sleep well tonight in your nice centrally heated house, tucked up under a nice warm duvet with your wife or girlfriend, with a full stomach. Just spare a thought even better spare some of your time for those worse off than you.
And know that the possessions we surround ourselves with don't bring us eternal happiness, everything eventually fades and is subject to cycles.
We are born with nothing in a world full of shit and we go out with nothing. We can take nothing with us, everything we accumulate during our lives brings temporarily happiness, whatever our status in life ultimately we ALL end up as dust.
